A pool deck renovation is rarely just about the deck. The surface, the plantings around it, how you move between pool and patio, where afternoon shade falls, how the space reads at night — these decisions work together or they fight each other. We approach pool-area projects as a coordinated landscape renovation rather than a single-trade swap.
The deck surface is where most owners start the conversation. Travertine, concrete pavers, and large-format porcelain each read differently underfoot and in the Florida sun. Travertine's porous structure typically runs 15 to 25 degrees cooler than standard concrete under a 95-degree midday sun — a real difference when children and bare feet are involved. Modern pavers in lighter blends perform well on heat too, and give you unit replacement flexibility travertine doesn't.
What usually makes the biggest difference, though, is the surround. Specimen palms placed to frame a view, lower plantings to soften a hard edge, a pergola to create afternoon shade, low-voltage uplighting for the evening scene — these turn a pool deck into an outdoor room. On larger renovations we coordinate the whole surround alongside the deck swap.
What we don't do: pool resurfacing, replastering, tile work on the pool shell itself, or equipment-side mechanical work. That stays with your pool contractor. We handle the deck environment and coordinate scheduling so our work and theirs don't collide — a common source of delays when the two trades aren't talking.
