Artificial Turf & Putting Greens

Artificial turf and custom putting greens across Palm City, Stuart, and the Treasure Coast — built on a Florida-spec aggregate base with heat-aware infill, not generic installs.

Overview

What this service is, and who it's for.

Artificial turf has moved past the plastic-mat version most people remember. Modern turf comes in realistic blade heights, dual-tone fiber colors, and specific grades for pets, play, putting, and shaded landscape use. On the right job it's a long-term fix for problem spaces: deep shade where sod won't grow, pet zones that destroy natural grass, courtyards that get no rain, and children's play areas that need to stay dry and clean. On the wrong job — large full-sun lawns — it's a hot, expensive mistake and we'll tell you so.

Custom putting greens are one of our favorite applications on larger Treasure Coast properties. A well-planned green — scaled to the lot, contoured to roll true, integrated with surrounding plantings and paver surrounds — becomes a genuine property feature rather than a backyard novelty. Green shape, cup placement, break and speed, and surround detailing all follow from how you'll actually use it. We plan ball roll for consistent 9 to 11 stimp depending on the surface you want to practice on.

The install matters more than the turf itself. In Florida, the base has to resist shifting under heavy rain and a high water table. We spec a compacted limerock or crushed-aggregate base rather than decomposed granite — DG migrates in a Florida wet season. Over the compacted base goes a finer screeded layer, then the turf is seamed, nailed, and infilled. Done this way, water drains through at a rate well above what Florida rain produces, and the surface stays flat and clean for the full product life.

Infill selection is where we differ from most installers. Standard crumb rubber absorbs heat and runs hot in Florida sun. We spec silica sand or cooler organic options for most applications, with antimicrobial infill in pet zones to control odor and bacteria. UV-stabilized polyethylene fibers in a C- or S-shape promote airflow and stay cooler than flat blades. A quality residential install is rated for 15–20 years; putting-specific greens often sit in the 7–15 year range depending on roll traffic.

What's Included

Concrete scope — not vague promises.

  • Custom putting greens with ball-roll calibration (target 9-11 stimp)
  • Recreation and play zones (playground-rated with impact underlay)
  • Pet-rated turf for dog zones and runs
  • Landscape-grade turf for shaded courtyards
  • Florida-spec compacted limerock or crushed-aggregate base
  • Weed barrier where appropriate
  • Seaming, nailing, and perimeter edge detail
  • Heat-aware infill — silica, cork, or antimicrobial per application
  • UV-stabilized polyethylene fibers specified per use case
  • Integration with surrounding paver and planting design
  • Final brush-up and surface commissioning

Before You Call

Look at the space in person before scoping the install.

A quick look you can do yourself — no tools or digging. It makes the first visit faster and more useful.

  • 01Track sun on the proposed area from morning through late afternoon. Full-sun areas run hot — turf is a stronger answer for shaded courtyards, pet runs, and putting zones than for a wholesale lawn replacement.
  • 02After a rain, note where water sits on the current surface or drains across it. The install will slope away from the house and tie into existing drainage; current pooling tells us where to plan for it.
  • 03Measure roughly, then look at the space from the main vantage points — the back door, the living-room window, poolside. Turf reads differently from different angles.
  • 04If pets will use the area, note the paths they already wear in the current lawn. Those are your real traffic lines and tell us where to spec the heaviest-use turf grade.
  • 05For a putting green, decide roughly how you'll practice — short putts, lag putting, or chipping. Each implies a different green size, number of cups, and surround.
  • 06Photograph the current state of the area. It makes the design visit faster and gives us a before/after record.

Our Process

How a artificial turf & putting greens project runs.

  1. 01

    Space assessment

We walk the area, confirm drainage patterns, map sun exposure through the day, and recommend the right turf grade and infill for the actual use.

  2. 02

    Excavation & base

Existing material is removed to depth, weed barrier set where appropriate, Florida-spec compacted aggregate base installed in lifts and screeded flat.

  3. 03

    Turf install

Turf is rolled, cut, seamed invisibly, and nailed with proper fiber direction. Edges are secured, and putting-green contouring is set before infill.

  4. 04

    Infill & brush-up

Heat-aware infill is applied and brushed in, fibers stood up, ball roll calibrated on putting greens, and the surface left clean.

FAQ

Questions buyers actually ask.

Full-sun turf runs warmer than natural grass — that's physics. Modern UV-stabilized polyethylene with cooler infills (silica, cork, antimicrobial) runs 15 to 25 degrees cooler than older crumb-rubber installs, but it still won't match the feel of healthy sod on a 95-degree afternoon. For courtyards, shaded zones, dog areas, and putting greens it performs well; for all-day full-sun lawns we usually recommend natural turf.

Yes — this is one of our favorite applications. We plan green shape, contouring, cup placement, break, speed, and surround to the lot and how you'll actually practice. A well-planned green becomes a real property feature, not a backyard novelty. Ball roll is calibrated at install.

The turf itself has perforations in the backing. The compacted aggregate base underneath — Florida-spec limerock or crushed stone — lets water move through to the subgrade. On a properly built install, water drains through at a rate well above what Florida rain produces, which is why the base material matters so much.

Yes, with pet-rated turf and the right infill. Pet-specific products handle urine drainage and brush clean. We spec antimicrobial infill in dog areas to control odor and bacteria, and set a slope so rinse-off and rain carry away cleanly. Enzyme-based cleaners handle anything the rain doesn't.

Standard crumb rubber in full-sun Florida applications. It absorbs heat, can carry odor in pet zones, and has mixed data around dust. Silica sand, cork, and organic infills perform better in our climate and stay cooler underfoot.

Quality residential turf is rated for roughly 15 to 20 years with normal use. Putting-specific greens often fall in the 7 to 15 year range depending on how much they're used. UV exposure, foot-traffic intensity, and whether the install was done to Florida base-spec all affect real-world lifespan — a cheap install significantly underperforms a correctly built one on the same product.

Yes. We tie new turf into existing bed lines and paver surrounds through clean edges and transition details so the install reads integrated, not patched on. Where turf abuts a pool deck or pergola, we plan the transition during design.
